Wenn jedes Lied gleich klingt und immer wieder artverwandte - weil erfolgreiche - Patterns verwendet werden, macht Musik (hören) keinen Spaß mehr. Genau dann spreche ich von Musik aus der Konserve!

An early idea (as the banana) from 25th August, 2007 redesigned.
Instead of spending lots of money in expensive sound equipment on your Mac you can use software solutions. Here is what I recently found out for myself. I wanna share it with you and describe it as step by step process.
In order to apply this approach you need: a Mac with OSX ;), Soundflower, LineIn, Audacity.
Here are the six steps to your luck :):
(1) In the OSX' system sound preferences choose the input >> Internal Microphone
(2) In Audacity choose sound input and outout to >> Soundflower (2ch)
(3) In the Audio-MIDI-Setup of Soundflower ("Flower" in the menu bar > Audio setup...) choose >> Soundflower (2ch) as output device
(4) If you prefer listening with your headphone, choose >> Built-In Output in the Soundflower sub menu "Soundflower (2ch)"
(5) If you want to record also the microphone use the Tool >> LineIn. Now set the input to >> Built-in Microphone: Internal Microphone and set the output to >> Soundflower (2ch). Don't forget to click >> Pass Thru. You should now be able to hear you voice when you speak into your internal mic. Actually step (1) is redundant as the input is set in LineIn.
(6) If you decide you don't want to listen to what you say - while recording - and only listen to the music, just switch the to None (OFF) in the menu mentioned in (4). Don't forget to activate your headphones in the menu - see step (4),
Hint: If you have a temporary speaking break while recording and just play the music it is my recommondation to turn off Pass Thru from step (5). If you've done that you can turn on the sound for your headphones again - see step (4). And if you'd like to speak again, just press Pass Thru in the LineIn software.
Hint 2: Please always check the audio level in Audacity!

Hier sind die sechs Schritte zum Glück :):

(5) Will man nun noch erreichen, dass neben Musik noch eine Mikrofonaufnahme stattfindet, nutzt man das Toool >>Line-In<< und schaltet den Input auf >> Mic und den Output auf >> Soundflower (2ch). Nun, nicht vergessen auf >> Pass Thru zu klicken. Ihr solltet Euch jetzt das erste Mal hören könne, wenn ihr in's Mikro redet. Schritt (1) ist wegen Schritt (5) eigentlich nicht mehr nötig.
(6) Will man sich beim Sprechen nun doch nicht hören und nur die Musik beim Aufnehmen genießen, schaltet man wie im selben Menü wie in Schritt (4) nun aber auf None (OFF). Nicht vergessen wieder den Ton auf den Kopfhörern anzuschalten, wenn man dem lauschen will, was man gerade aufgenommen hatte - siehe Schritt (4).
Hinweis: Wenn man während der Aufnahme nur Musik abspielt und für eine Weile Redepause hat, empfiehlt es sich, das Pass Thru aus Schritt (5) auszuschalten. Hat man das getan, kann man auch wieder den Ton auf den Kopfhörern anschalten - siehe Schritt (4). Möchte man wieder reden, klickt man einfach wieder auf Pass Thru.
Hinweis 2: Bitte immer den Audio-Ausschlag im Audacity-Frequenzausschlag checken!

Harmonic, dreamlike, fanciful and electronic - also with a romantic touch. That's the way I would describe the newest album of the relatively unknown band named Owl City. As I read in the Wikipedia they are also a child of MySpace, having "received more than 6 million plays" so far.
Rather than getting into detail to every single song I wanna pick some favourites.
First, and this is probably the most obvious one: Fireflies! That song is one big reason for my WOW in the article's title. I mean, I feel deeply emotionally touched by that "I'd like to make myself believe...". It is huge! That style is very comparable to Passion Pit (e.g. Smile Upon Me)- also one of my favourite bands, for sure.
Cave In is - as intended by the artist - the very soft, pop-ish, synth-ish prelude. I especially enjoy the first two as well as the last minute. Everything in between is too lengthy for my gusto.
Well, I am a fan of electronically pitched and digitally altered voices by filters from the sound toolbox. This is why I get obsessive when I listen to The Saltwater Room. Boum!! That one got me. Especially her - sounding so crystal clear and weak at the same time.
Goose skin - I got it all over my body. And Meteor Shower is responsible for that. That short song is damn intense with a two climax attitude. At first it makes you feel sad, then some warm words and and a final explosion. And this happens even a second time! You are done after that - smooth like camembert.
Being the last pearls of their third album The Tip of the Iceberg and Vanilla Twilight invite you into that warm house in a Scandinavian wooden cottage. It's the forerunner for the early end. Both are strong although the first one is literally more moving a.k.a. "dancing" with a tendency to 90s electro pop. The last one is the lovely carress song longing for warmth, harmony and her!
As a conlusion I see that album as one of the best pieces of music this year. It's perfect for winter time and everything connected - thinking in clichés. Grab it as soon as you can. Your girlfriend will thank you for that present - I'm sure.
